As a veteran, having served in the Vietnam war, I am very aware of the needs of the
men and women who have served our country. As a state legislator I worked to help
address those needs through legislation, which is listed below:
- Authored the law that waives tuition for dependents of Veterans. (HB 181, 2000)
- Co-sponsored a bill (that became law) to furnish current and past National Guard
members with free birth and death certificates. (HB 400, 2004)
- Created the KY Homeless Veterans Program (Co-sponsor, HB 295, 2000)
- Co-sponsored a bill to establish Military Heritage Commission to protect military
heritage sites (HB 62, 2002)
- Created the ‘Burial Honor Guard Trust Fun’ to establish a burial honor guard for
military and veterans funerals (Co-sponsor, HB 278, 2000)
- Co-sponsored a bill that extended the protections of the Federal Soldiers’ and
Sailors’ Relief Act to members of the KY National Guard called up for active
duty. (HB 720, 2002)
- Co-sponsored a bill that created new license plates for those with distinguished
military service (HB 30, 2001/HB 365, 1998)
- Co-sponsored a bill that created two new 120 bed Veterans nursing homes for
Kentucky.
