Selecting an Evolis Printer

The identification card is an important necessity in everyday life.  Before the widespread use of laminated and plastic photo ID cards, identification consisted of someone writing out what you looked like and your credentials.  Often the card was signed by the verifying official.  This paper served and the identification needed for school or for various workplace activities.  Technology advances in the past several years have made paper identification almost non-existent.  Although there are many types of identification cards used today, the most common card in the United States is the state issued identification card or state driver's license.  Other popular uses of ID cards are student ID cards, loyalty cards, debit cards and transport passes.  The most common, non-state issued ID card is probably the employee ID card.  Businesses have never had a time where security has not been more important.  The technology to provide identification has arrived at fairly secure card production at a reasonable price.

Many of today's ID cards are used as a multifunction card.  In addition to a visual identification of the card holder, often ID cards are used for access to buildings or networks and various debit, payroll and accounting functions.

Future identification seems to be leaning toward the biometric identification capabilities. At some time, the card in use today may become outdated as fingerprint and identification by retina scanning will provide our identification needs.

Many organizations have photo id service bureau companies provide their identification cards.  Others have determined that their production levels are high enough that the cost of purchasing a system is cost effective.   In addition to cost savings, there is the capability of changing the card design on the fly and allowing the company to have full control of the card database and production.

By deciding to produce ID badges, an organization needs to appoint someone to begin understanding the jargon of producing ID badges.  There is a wide variety of system brands options to consider.  The printing process is not difficult, but understanding the various options does take a little research. Printers, software, cameras supplies and badge holders need to be reviewed.
